Donald R. Coleman, 82, West Lawn, residing with his daughter Amy, passed away Friday, June 16, in Reading Hospital.
He was predeceased by his wife Annette H. (Achenbach) Coleman.
Born in West Reading, he was the son of the late Alfred H. and Lillian M. (Zwicky) Coleman.
Donald was a 1952 graduate of Wilson High School, a 1956 graduate of Penn State University with a degree in Mechanical Engineeering, a 1965 graduate of Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and a 1981 graduate of University of Maine.
He first started working at Textile Machine Works as a machine designer for six years. Later he became the plant manager of Wyomissing Corp., paper products division, for 13 years. Lastly, he was employed as the Sr. Vice President at Albee-Campbell Inc., Sinking Spring, for 26 years, until his retirement in 1999.
His greatest loves in life were dancing with his wife Annette, and fishing.
Donald was a member of West Lawn United Methodist Church, where he served as a Sunday School Teacher for 30 years. He was also a member of the Church Chancel Choir for 30 years, and the Missions Committee Board for 10 years.
Donald volunteered at the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum, Reading, Landis Farm Museum, Lancaster, Spring Ridge Medical Center, and ManorCare, Sinking Spring. He was a member of Pretzel City Barber Shop Chorus, Reading, for 31 years, the Vice President of West Lawn - Wyomissing Library for five years, and the director of Wilson Century Club, Wilson Football, for 10 years.
Donald is survived by four children: Michael H., husband of Chana Coleman, Portland, OR; Christopher D., husband of Stellani Coleman, Pittsburgh; Amy B. (Coleman), wife of Timothy Cruley, West Lawn; and Abby (Coleman), wife of Brian Ohlinger, Sinking Spring. A brother, Robert B., husband of Nancy Coleman, Wyomissing, nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren also survive him.
In addition to his wife, Donald is also predeceased by his brother, Kenneth R. Coleman.
Celebration of life services will be held Saturday, July 8, 2017, at 4 p.m. in West Lawn United Methodist Church, 15 Woodside Ave, Reading, PA 19609. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Contributions may be made to West Lawn United Methodist Memorial Fund at the above address. Edward J.
