Donald William Holloway, 84, of Spring Township, died April 2, 2012 in The Reading Hospital and Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.
He was the devoted husband of Vogel Marie (Jones) Holloway, whom he married 61 years ago on January 10, 1951.
Born in Beach Haven, Luzerne County, he was a son of the late Dingman and Ethel Marie (Long) Holloway.
He was a 1945 graduate of Berwick High School and attended Penn State University.
Donald was a Pennsylvania State Police Officer for 38 years, retiring as Lieutenant of Troop L, Reading in 1987.
He was an avid hunter and golfer. He was the owner and operator of Chapel Hill Golf Course for 20 years. He was also an established businessman, having built and operated 5 rollerskating rinks.
Donald's world revolved around his family. They were his number one priority and he loved them dearly. He cherished time spent together, especially vacations to the shore.
Donald was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in WWII.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three children: Deborah A. Holloway, William D. Holloway and Bradley A., husband of Deborah L. Holloway, all of Spring Township. Also surviving is his brother, Jack G. Holloway, Bloomsburg. Four grandchildren: Carl, husband of Melissa Furillo, Courtney Furillo-Bergeron, Brandon Holloway and Ryan, husband of Danielle Holloway and five great-grandchildren: Carleigh, Kali, Mia, Rylynn and Reese survive him.
Donald was predeceased by a brother, Richard Holloway and his sister, Desda Andrews.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday in Mohn's Hill E.C. Church, 708 Mohn's Hill Rd, Reading. Visitation will be held 12 to 2 p.m. with service beginning promptly at 2 p.m. in the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Animal Rescue League, P.O. Box 69, Mohnton, PA 19540 or American Diabetes Association, 3544 N. Progress Ave., Suite 101, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
