Donald R. Brown, Sr., 97, passed away on November 11, 2017, in Country Meadows of Wyomissing.
He was the husband of Violet B. (Gilmer) Brown for 75 years. They were married on June 3, 1942.
Born in West Reading, he was the son of the late Daniel and Cora (Yocum) Brown.
Donald was a 1939 graduate of West Reading High School.
He was a proud U.S. Airforce Veteran who spent three and a half years serving as a staff sergeant in England during WWII.
Donald was employed by Textile Machine works, later known as Rockwell, as a tool coordinator for 34 years until his retirement in 1982. He enjoyed playing softball with the company and inviting his family along to watch him play.
He was an active member of the West Wyomissing Chapel where he helped build the church and was one of the founding deacons. Later in life, he became a member of Victory Baptist Church.
Donald loved birds and found joy in building bird houses in his retirement. Most importantly, he loved his family. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and wonderful grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be truly missed, especially by his family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children: Donald R., Jr., husband of Joyce K. Brown, Plainville, CT; Daryl S., husband of Jean Brown, Hamburg; and Patricia L., wife of Douglas Beaver, Harleysville; ten grandchildren, and seventeen great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by daughter, Susan Anne Brown who passed away on July 14, 1968. He was also predeceased by six brothers and one sister.
