Dolores (Dee) J. Marrella, 89, died May 12, 2025, in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania.
Dee leaves fond memories of her mischievous sense of humor and her devotion to family, including her husband, Colonel Leonard S. Marrella, PhD, United States Army (Retired); her daughters, Tammy, Lani, and Robin; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild; her sisters, Teresa (Toots) and Karen; and nieces and nephews. She was a great and loyal friend to her husband and to many others. Her grandchildren said, "If there's one thing Grandma taught us, it's that there's always time for a laugh - even in the quiet moments."
Dee was born in Paterson, NJ, on December 4, 1935, she was the daughter of Raymond and Beatrice (Amendola) Delia. She characterized herself growing up as a "real tomboy" who held her own playing stick ball with the neighborhood boys. She graduated from the New Jersey State Teacher's College at Trenton as a member of the Kappa Delta Phi Honor Society. She married Len on June 22, 1957, in the chapel at the United States Military Academy at West Point and served as an Army wife for 22 years. During that time, the family moved 14 times and Dee worked as a school teacher in places such as Fort Meade, Maryland; Fontainebleau, France; Glen Rock, New Jersey; and Annandale, Virginia.
Dee was a devout Catholic and parishioner of Saint Ignatius Catholic Church. She was a published author of the book Everything About Me, a Guide for My Future Caregivers, with separate editions for the military and for families with special needs children. She loved spending summers in Stone Harbor New Jersey, enjoyed going to the casino, reading, and was an avid collector of recipes.
