Detective Robert "Bill" Dunn, 71, passed away March 5, 2014, in his Spring Township residence surrounded by his loving family.
He was the husband of Darlene Lynn (Hall) Dunn, whom he married October 30, 1998.
Born December 26, 1942 in West Reading, he was a son of the late Howard Edwin Dunn and Laura Jeannette (Orrs) Dunn. He was also predeceased by a step-mother, Mildred Elizabeth (Trievel) Dunn.
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran.
Robert was employed by the Exeter Police Department for 30 years. During his career he served as a patrolman for his first 15 years before becoming a detective in 1992 and later retiring in 2007.
Robert was very active in his community. He was a member of the Berks FOP Lodge #71, Teamsters Local #729, Wyomissing; Junior Fire Company #2 Reading where he served as a former firefighter and president and was a former member of the Mount Penn Fire Company where he served as Fire Chief.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Kevin R., husband of Lauren E. (Meikle) Dunn, Maidencreek Township, Charles L., husband of Angela C. (Garland) Diefenderfer, Shillington, Jennifer L. (Diefenderder) Jones, Bern Township and Christal L. (Dunn), wife of Brian Fitzgerald, Robesonia Boro and two sisters, Bonnie (Dunn), wife of Miguel Ortega, Reading and Barbara (Albert), wife of Clinton Christman, Muhlenberg Township.
Six grandchildren, Kacie, Olivia, Luke, Kaya, Marlee and Morgan and four grand dogs, Harley, Cali, Bruno and Miss Piggy also survive him.
He was predeceased by his brother, Richard Dunn.
Services will be Monday at 10 a.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading, PA 19611. Burial will be private in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 9:30 to 10 a.m. in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to FOP Lodge #71, PO Box 190, Temple, PA 19560. These contributions will be used for scholarships for children of fallen police officers.
