Denton L. Berckey

Denton L. Berckey, Jr., 65 of Temple, died July 23, 2009 in Reading Hospital.

He was the husband of Joyce L. (Herner) Berckey.

Born in Norfolk, VA, he was the son of the late Denton L., Sr. and Anna (Galdun) Berckey.

He was a 1961 graduate of West Reading High School and attended Kutztown University.

Denton was a member of the West Reading High School Class "C" State Championship basketball team during 1960 and 1961. He also was a member of the Berks County Junior Miss Pageant, serving as: Treasure-1973-1975, Chairman 1976-1987 and Publicity Chairman in 1988.

He was employed by El Mor Chevrolet, Morganton as a service manager, retiring in June 2009.

Denton was a United States Air Force veteran in the Vietnam War, 1964-1968.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Loren J. Berckey, Reading and his daughter, Erin L. Berckey, at home and his granddaughter, Taylor Mackenzie Adams.

Services will be Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in the Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading. Friends may call Tuesday from 10:00 am. to 11:00 am. in the funeral home.
