Dennis L. Schlappich, 62, of West Wyomissing, died April 1, 2007 in Reading Hospital, where he had been since March 19.

He was the husband of Rosemary "Jackie" Schlappich.

Born in Reading, he was the son of the late Norman L. and Pauline (Rhine) Schlappich.

He was the owner of Standard Cutlery Service, which he operated from his home for 36 years, last working October 19, 2006. He was affectionately known as "The Knife Man". Dennis previously ran Miller's delicatessen for 13 years at the Farmer's Kissinger Market, Reading.

Dennis was a 1962 graduate of Wilson High School.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening, antiquing and his work.

In addition to his his wife he is survived by two sons, David A. husband of Mercelinda (Gimenez) Schlappich, Stewartstown and Darren L. Schlappich husband of Jen Lindsay, New Jerusalem. There is one sister Shirley (Schlappich) Miller, Bernville. Five grandchildren, Stephanie, Randall, Timothy, Joshua and Ryan; and one great granddaughter, Dakota Riley also survive him. He is also survived by his cat, Oliver. Dennis was predeceased by his brother, Larry Schlappich.

Services will be Thursday at 12 noon in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park. A visitation will be held Thursday from 11 a.m. to 12 noon at the funeral home.
