Delourdes Okoniewski

Sister de Lourdes Okoniewski, 92, of the Bernardine Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis, died of natural causes on Thursday evening, January 16, 2025, at St. Joseph Villa, Reading, PA, where she had resided since 2014.

Born in Wilmington, DE, she was a daughter of the late Valentine and Mary (Adamski) Okoniewski.

Sister de Lourdes entered the Bernardine Sisters on August 11, 1950, and was in her 75th year of religious life. Sister earned a BS degree in Education from Villanova University and served her ministry in Connecticut, Delaware, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Washington D.C. as an elementary and secondary teacher and principal; provincial treasurer, councilor, and secretary; administrator and local minister.

Sister is survived by one sister: Leona Papagno, Elkton, MD.

Viewing on Friday, January 24, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at St Joseph Villa, Reading, PA. Mass Saturday, January 25, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Convent Chapel, Reading, PA followed by burial in the Bernardine Franciscan Sisters' Cemetery, Mount Alvernia, Reading, PA.
