David W. Burkey

David W. Burkey, 54, passed away Saturday, November 10, 2018.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Brenda M. (Yelles) Burkey.

Born in West Reading, he is the son of Edward E. and Susan A. (Noll) Burkey, Muhlenberg Twp.

David was a 1982 graduate of Muhlenberg High School.

He was a member of First Reformed United Church of Christ, Hamburg.

David was employed as a Reading Hospital Patient Care Assistant for 35 years, last working on Friday. He also worked at Magic Suds Car Wash, Leesport, where he passed away on Saturday.

He spent a great deal of his time volunteering at Victory Junction, N.C., Explorer Post at Reading Hospital, and Pocono Raceway assisting folks with disabilities. He was always there for everyone who needed him without question.

In addition to his wife and parents, David is survived by a son: Kyle D. Burkey, Hamburg; a daughter, Courtney M., wife of Thomas Link, Hamburg; and one sister, Debra A., wife of Stephen Schaffer, Muhlenberg Twp. Other survivors include nieces and nephews: Stacy, Matthew, Jonny, Kayla, and Cole.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, November 15, 2018, at 11 a.m., at Burkey & Driscoll Funeral Home, 40 South 4th Street, Hamburg. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
