David M. Rust

David M. Rust, 78, of Whittier Avenue, Cornwall Terrace, was pronounced dead Sept. 11 at 7 p.m. in the garage at his residence.

The Berks County coroner's office said Rust died of carbon monoxide toxicity. A certificate of death by suicide was issued, officials said.

Born in Staten Island, N.Y., he was a son of the late Schuyler H. and Pearl W. (Wood) Rust.

Rust was employed for 30 years in the advertising department by Reading Eagle Company, retiring in 1987.

He attended Rutgers Preparatory School, Brunswick, N.J., and was a 1945 graduate of Tabor Academy, Marion, Mass. Rust was a 1950 graduate of Lehigh University, Bethlehem, with a bachelor's degree in business administration.

Rust was a Navy veteran of World War II.

He was a charter member and past vice president of the Flying Dutchmen Ski Club, Reading.

Surviving are a niece and three nephews.

Memorial services will be Monday at 11 a.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home Inc., West Reading. Burial will be private.
