David J. McDevitt, 82, died December 21, 2009 in his Wyomissing residence.
He was the husband of 52 years to Freida F. (Moyer) McDevitt, whom he married on September 28, 1956.
Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Nathaniel and Anna (Haas) McDevitt.
He was a graduate of Reading Catholic High School.
David was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during WW II.
He was employed by Arnold's Book Bindery, Reading for 25 years. Later, he worked for AT&T, Reading for eight years until his retirement.
David was a member of St. Ignatius Roman Catholic Church, Whitfield. He was a former member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Reading, where he was a lector, Eucharistic Minister and sang in the choir; he also was a choir member at Holy Rosary R.C. Church.
David was a lifetime member of Ivy Leaf Associates, Reading.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four siblings, Gerald, Temple, Leon, Laureldale, Helen, wife of Joseph Mitchell, Willow Valley and Vincent, Shillington. Many nieces and nephews also survive him.
He was predeceased by his son, David Joseph McDevitt, II on February 19, 1981; and seven siblings, Rev. Francis, Joseph, James, Robert, Edward, Jane Antosy and Clare Miley.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 11 a.m. in St. Ignatius Church, 2810 St. Albans Dr., Sinking Spring, PA 19608. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. in the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: St. Ignatius Memorial Fund at the above address or St. Joseph R.C.
