David M. Mcdermott

David M. McDermott, 79, formerly of Shillington, passed away on Thursday, November 24, 2022, at Phoebe Berks Healthcare Center. He resided at Phoebe for two and a half years.

His wife, Maryhelen "Bunny" (Wiest) McDermott, passed away on February 28, 2020. They shared over 56 wonderful years of marriage.

He was the son of the late F. Joseph and Mildred (Gudikunst) McDermott. He was a graduate of Central Catholic High School in 1961.

David was employed by Carpenter Technology for 31 years until his retirement in 2004.

He enjoyed trips to the beach but above all, he was a loving and caring grandfather whose grandchildren meant everything to him.

Survivors include his three children: Stacey, widow of Robert Karmonick Sr. of Shillington; Kelly, wife of Frank Ferrandino of Wyomissing; and Michael, husband of Debra McDermott, of Wernersville and six grandchildren: Robert, Jr. and Samantha Karmonick; Margaret and Christian Ferrandino; and Cecelia and Owen McDermott. Several nieces and nephews also survive him. He was predeceased by one brother, Joseph McDermott, and one sister, Louise Ziegler.

A Celebration of Life service for Bunny and David will be held privately at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to American Lung Association, lung.org.
