David McCanney, 51, of Lower Heidelberg Township, died April 23, 2012 in the Highlands at Wyomissing Nursing Center, surrounded by his family, just as he was surrounded by loved ones throughout his entire illness.
David McCanney, born in Philadelphia, PA on June 12, 1960, was the husband of Allison (Kline) McCanney. He was a son of James E. Sr. and Annette (Richards) McCanney of West Chester.
He was a 1978 graduate of Haverford High School, Delaware County; 1982 graduate of the University of Scranton; 1986 graduate of St. Joseph's University and a 1993 graduate of Widener University School of Law.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Reading.
David was employed in the corporate lending and bankruptcy departments with American Bank/Meridian Bank. He was later employed with the Wilmington Trust Company, working as a vice president in their bankruptcy group. David presently worked as an attorney with Stevens & Lee/Griffin Financial Group, Reading, where he had worked since 1994.
He was a member of the Turnaround Management Association and American Bankruptcy Institute, as well as a member of the Berks County Bar Association.
David was also very involved in the community. He was a board member of the Olivet Boys & Girls Club, Reading, a past president and coach of the Wilson Jr. Soccer Club, a member of the Wilson Lacrosse Club, head coach of the Wilson High School Girls' Lacrosse team for four years, and played for the Wyomissing Kickers Soccer Club.
He loved spending his time coaching youth sports teams, playing soccer, and vacationing in Ocean City, New Jersey.
He loved his family more than anything else, whose love for him was reciprocal.
David is also survived by three children: William J., a senior at Gettysburg College, Laura S., a freshman at the University of Pittsburgh, and Lindsay P., a junior at Wilson High School.
Other survivors include two brothers: James Jr, husband of Mary (O'Loughlin) McCanney, of Havertown, Delaware County, and Mark, husband of Kate (Dougherty) McCanney of Paoli, Chester County.
He is also survived by Allison's family: Sidney D. and Barbara (James) Kline; John H. Jr., husband of Lisa (Kline) Gallen and William R., husband of Leslie (Kline) Davidson, all of Wyomissing.
Services will be Monday at 10:00 am in Trinity Lutheran Church, 527 Washington St., Reading, PA 19601. A viewing will be held Sunday from 5:00-8:00 pm in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading. No public viewing on Monday. Burial will be in Charles Evans Cemetery, Reading.
