David A. Haas

Dr. David Allan Haas, Lieutenant Colonel, U.S. Army (retired), 70, died December 14, 2012 at his Fleetwood Borough residence. He was the son of the late John R. Haas and Louise S. (Mehler) Haas of Erie.

Dr. Haas was a 1960 graduate of Cathedral Preparatory High School in Erie. He earned an A.B. from John Carroll University in 1964, an M.B.A. from the University of Tennessee in 1973, and a Ph.D. in business administration from Temple University in 1998.

A veteran of the Vietnam War, Dr. Haas served for 24 years as an officer in the U.S. Army Transportation Corps, retiring from active duty in 1988. He retired from his position as a professor in the College of Business at Kutztown University in September, a post he held for the past 14 years.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Barbara A. (Carroll) Haas, of Fleetwood and their four sons and their families: Lt. Col. John R. Haas II, U.S. Army, of Dublin, OH and his wife Dawnann; Col. Peter M. Haas, U.S. Army, of Manassas, VA and his wife Carolyn; Cdr. Michael D. Haas, U.S. Navy, of Virginia Beach, VA and his wife Lisa; and Maj. Christopher P. Haas, U.S. Army, of Fort Hood, TX and his wife Alice. They have seven grandchildren. Dr. Haas is also survived by his two sisters, Susan M. Johnson of Keswick, VA and Mary L. Kliorys of Erie.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Holy Guardian Angel's R.C. Church, 3139 Kutztown Road, Reading, PA 19605. A viewing will be held from 9:00-10:30 a.m. at Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Reading. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA on a date to be announced.
