David H. Levering

David H. Levering, 82, of Wyomissing Hills, died May 22, 2015, in the Reading Hospital. He was the husband of Constance (Septor) Levering, to who he was married 52 years.

Born in Reading on May 28, 1932, he was the son of the late Alvin S. Levering Sr. and Edythe (Hain) Levering.

He was last employed by Serta Mattress, Lancaster, retiring in March 2005.

A 1951 graduate of Admiral Farragut Academy, Pine Beach, NJ., he played football and ran track. In this same time period he practiced magic and performed locally as "Red The Wizard."

The Korean War interrupted his plan to enter college and he enlisted in the Navy. Following a tour of duty in the Atlantic and Caribbean, he pursued a teaching degree at Kutztown State College and graduated in 1961.

Hoping to find a teaching position, he left Berks County for the Virgin Islands. Instead the U.S. Parks Service hired him as a Ranger on St. Croix. He aided the completion of an underwater trail off Buck Island where locals and tourists still enjoy the underwater beauty.

David also enjoyed mountain climbing and scaled Mr. Rainier twice and two taller peaks in Mexico. He spent countless hours playing racquetball recently followed Philadelphia sports teams.

In addition to his wife he is survived by a son, Leif C., husband of Vanessa (Pietrantonio) Levering; a daughter, Amy, wife of Ronald R. Kimball, Tigard, Oregon. There are also five grandchildren: Ian and Olivia Levering, Mohnton, Ryan Kimball, Los Angeles, CA, and Emma and Matthew Kimball, Tigard, Oregon.

David was predeceased by two brothers: Alvin S. Jr. and John H. Levering.

A Memorial Service will be held on June 14, 2015 at 2 p.m. in St. Albans Episcopal Church, 2848 St. Albans Drive, Sinking Spring. Rev. Canon Karl L. Kern will be officiating. Edward J.
