Darell S. Rank

Darell S. Rank, first executive director of the Berks Earned Income Tax Bureau, Wyomissing, died March 26 at 6:20 p.m. in ManorCare Health Services Inc., Spring Township, where he had resided one day.

Rank, 79, Spring Township, formerly of Wyomissing, was the husband of Gloria E. (D'Ercole) Rank.

He was appointed the first director of the Berks bureau in May 1968. Rank retired in 1993.

Born in Wyomissing, he was a son of the late Allen W. and Helen (Shaffer) Rank.

Rank was previously employed from 1951 to 1958 as an advertising assistant to the vice president in charge of sales and as a system analyst by Textile Machine Works, Wyomissing, and was employed for eight years as executive secretary of the Berks County branch of the Pennsylvania Economy League until 1968.

He was a 1944 graduate of Wyomissing High School and attended Swarthmore College. Rank was a 1947 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia. He was a 1951 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton Graduate School.

Rank was a Navy veteran of World War II.

He was a board member of the Pennsylvania Association of Earned Income Tax Collectors in 1975 to 1976.

Rank was active in United Fund activities.

In 1974, he received a courage award from the Chamber of Commerce of Reading and Berks County.

His wife is his only survivor.

Graveside services will be private in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Lebanon County. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home Inc., West Reading, is in charge of arrangements.
