Daniel Yoder Hoppes

Daniel Yoder Hoppes, 90, of Oley, passed away October 12, 2014 in The Reading Hospital and Medical Center.

He was the husband of Minerva S. (Reimert) Hoppes.

Born August 31, 1924 he was a son of the late Paul A. and Annie S. (Yoder) Hoppes.

He was a graduate of Oley Valley High School.

Daniel worked for Boyer Farms, Oley, for 25 years and then worked for Oley Township.

He was an active lifetime member of Friedens Evangelical Lutheran Church, Oley, where he was the Sunday School treasurer for 40 years and was the church sexton for 15 years.

Daniel enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time with his family, and riding his John Deere mower.

He was also a lifetime member of Pike Township Sportsman Club, Oley Valley Hunting Club, Center County, and Oley Fire Company.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his four children: Richard M., husband of Carole Reimert, Lenhartsville; Robert S., husband of Michelle Bickham, Reading; Donald S. Bickham, Fleetwood; and Patricia E., wife of Harold Kehl Jr., Lenhartsville. Also surviving are his sister-in-law, Anna May Hoppes, Oley; his nieces and nephew: Sharon Hoppes, Hagerstown, MD; Kimberly A. Hoppes, NYC; Andrew Hoppes, Wayne; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Daniel was predeceased by his brother, Harold Y. Hoppes, March 5, 2014.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. in Friedens Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1076 Memorial Hwy, Oley. A viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. in the church. Burial will be in Berks County Memorial Gardens. Kuhn-Stitzel Funeral Homes and Crematory, Inc., Oley, is in charge of arrangements.
