Daniel Anthony Ciervo

Daniel Anthony Ciervo, Sr., 86, of West Reading, passed away on Monday, August 23, 2021, in the care of Penn State Health St. Joseph. He was the loving husband of Barbara Loretta (Schearer).

Born in West Reading to the late Donato and Carmella (Pacelli) Ciervo, Daniel graduated from West Reading High School in 1954 where he excelled as a four sport athlete, including football and basketball. He earned a full scholarship at Syracuse University and played in the Cotton Bowl in 1957 as a running back.

After graduating from Syracuse in 1958, Daniel accepted a position as the health and physical education instructor at Warwick High School, later working for Muhlenberg School District. He served as the football head coach for Muhlenberg High School and as the assistant coach at Warwick. He retired in 1994 after 34 years as an educator.

Daniel was inducted in the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame, Berks Chapter. He was also inducted into the Wyomissing Football Hall of Fame, the Berks Basketball Hall of Fame, and the Berks Coaches Football Hall of Fame.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church.

Daniel's memory will be forever treasured by his wife, Barbara; his children: Danelle Parisi (Tom) of Wyomissing Hills; Albert Ciervo (Amy) of Philadelphia; Daniel A. Ciervo, Jr., (Judy) of Reading; and Victor Ciervo (Brooke) of Temple; his 12 grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Michelina Stankiewicz of Flying Hills. In addition to his parents, Daniel was predeceased by his siblings, John, Victor, Philomena, Albert, Angelina, Annie, and Gloria.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, August 28, 2021, at 10:00 am at Sacred Heart Church, 740 Cherry St, West Reading, with entombment to follow at Gethsemane Cemetery, Hyde Park. Visitation with his family will be held Saturday morning from 8:30 AM until 9:30 AM at the Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave, West Reading.
