Dale J. Hettinger, 56, of Grant Avenue, Leesport, died of cancer April 13 at 7:20 p.m. in Reading Hospital, where he had been a patient since April 2.
He was the husband of Suzanne C. (Bausher) Hettinger.
Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Floyd A. and Beatrice R. (Ritz) Hettinger.
Hettinger was the owner-operator of Gilmer Alignment, Reading, from 1973 to 1979 and was an automotive shop instructor at the Reading-Muhlenberg Vocational Technical School in 1979.
From 1980 to 1997, he was employed as automotive mechanic by various local auto dealerships including Lindgren Chrysler-Plymouth.
Hettinger was employed from 1998 until November by Temple Sunoco and served as an instructional assistant in the diesel program at the Berks Career & Technology Center, Oley Township, from 1997 until December.
He was a 1967 graduate of Reading High School and attended technical school.
Hettinger was a certified master mechanic, Pennsylvania state inspection instructor and a certified state inspection license class 4.
He is also survived by a daughter, Michelle A. Hettinger, Port Clinton, Schuylkill County.
Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. in Walter R. Christ Funeral Home Inc., Laureldale. Burial will be in Berks County Memorial Gardens, Maidencreek Township.
