D. Stewart Mccleary

Rev. Donald Stewart McCleary, 83, of Spring Township, died July 16, 2009 at 2:35 am in Phoebe Berks Health Care Center, where he had been a patient since July 3rd.

He was the husband of Doris Jean (Alsedek) McCleary, whom he married February 11, 1995.

Rev. McCleary was predeceased by his first wife, Evelyn Larue (Johnson) McCleary, who died October 9, 1993.

Born in his Harrisburg residence on April 17, 1926, he was a son of the late Frank W. and May Belle (Fortney) McCleary.

He was a 1944 graduate of John Harris High School, Harrisburg; 1947 graduate of Albright College, Reading and a 1950 graduate of the Evangelical School of Theology.

Rev. McCleary was a past trustee of Albright College and also a past president of the 50 Plus Club at Albright.

He was a pastor for over 50 years, serving for the New York Conference; a Chaplain in Cumberland County and as a minister of visitation with Central-Park United Methodist Church, Reading.

Rev. McCleary is also survived by three children: David S., husband of Deborah J. (Johnston) McCleary of Orefield, PA; Sharon Louise (McCleary) Clark of Reading and Thomas W., husband of Sheree M. (Throne) McCleary of White River Junction, VT.

Other survivors include six grandchildren: Daniel S., husband of Megan A. (Simcik) Clark of Mine Hill, NJ; Rebecca S. Clark of Reading; Mary Grace Clark of Pittsburgh; Christopher R. McCleary of Orefield, PA; Sean R. McCleary of White River Junction, VT and Trevor G. McCleary of Orefield, PA.

There are also two great grandchildren surviving: Cameron D. Clark of Mine Hill, NJ and Mikayla E. Kunder of Reading.

Several nieces and nephews of Doris McCleary also survive him: Donald & Anne Alsedek; Gwen Alsedek; Tracy Alsedek and Kelly Alsedek.

He was predeceased by a brother, Frank Wayne McCleary.

Services will be held Monday at 11:00 am in Albright College Chapel, 13th and Union Streets, Reading. A viewing will be held in the Chapel from 9:00 am until time of service. Burial will be in Birdsboro Cemetery.
