D. Gene Hafer

D. Gene Hafer, 73, of Amity Township, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 26, 2009 in the Reading Hospital and Medical Center, where he was a patient for 17 days.

He was the husband of Arlene L. (High) Hafer. He and Arlene were married for 52 years.

He was born in Amity Township to the late George and Ellen (Garber) Hafer.

He was a 1954 graduate of Amity High School and was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Amityville. He was also a member of the Amity Athletic Club where he served on all the board positions, including past president. He was an Amity Township Supervisor, serving periodically over a 40 year period and was a member of the Republican Club of Amity. He was also a member of the Amity Fire Company, the Monarch Fire Company and the Pike Township Sportsmans Association.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: David Hafer of Reiffton; Mary Ellen Hafer-Leftwich of Reading; George Hafer of Dallas, Pa.; Kevin Hafer of Amity and Eric Hafer of Boyertown. Also his Sister-in-law Mary Ellen Hafer of Reading and 6 Grandchildren.

He was pedeceased by a Brother: George Hafer and 3 Sisters: Anna, Evelyn and Alice.

A Memorial Service for Gene will be held on Thursday, July 30, 2009 at 10:00 am in St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 1312 Old Swede Road, Douglassville, Pa. 19518. Friends and Family may call on Thursday from 9:00-10:00 am. There will be no viewing. Inurnment in Oley Union Cemetery, Spangsville will be at the convenience of the family.
