Corey Jones

Dr. Corey E. Jones, 50, of Wyomissing, passed away on January 20, 2026, after a two-year battle with lymphoma.

He was the loving and dedicated husband of Alison M. (Turley) Jones. They were married on September 14, 2002, and cherished over 23 years of marriage.

Born in West Reading, he was a son of Nancy L. (Frey) Hess, Spring Twp. and Quin E. Jones, Sinking Spring.

Corey was a graduate of Governor Mifflin High School, 1994; Shippensburg University, 1998; Wilkes University, with a MA in Educational Leadership, and Immaculata College, earning his Doctorate in Education.

Early in Corey's professional career, he worked at the Children's Home of Reading and was employed by the Child and Family Support Services as a Therapeutic Support Staff team member. He began his educational career as the Dean of Students at Exeter Jr. High School, was the Assistant Principal and Athletic Director for Tulpehocken High School, served as the Assistant Principal for Conestoga Valley High School, served as Principal at Spring Ford High School, and in 2011, he was named the Wyomissing Area High School Principal, a position he held until his passing. Dr. Jones will be remembered for many accomplishments during his leadership at Wyomissing. His mantra, "Stay classy, Wyo," reflected his respect for the school, his colleagues and his students. Most importantly, Corey was the backbone of the high school and held Wyomissing to the highest standards academically, professionally and personally throughout his 15 years of leadership.

Always committed to excellence, Corey was an adjunct professor at Alvernia University and also taught at Albright College. For over 20 years, he was a fitness instructor at Body Zone. Coaching was also an important part of Corey's life. He was an assistant baseball coach at Alvernia University and coached Shillington Jr. Legion and Legion baseball. He coached both Holy Name and Wyomissing flag football in addition to Wyomissing youth football, baseball, and basketball. Always a competitive athlete, Corey played football, basketball, and baseball at Governor Mifflin; he played one year of baseball at IUP and three more years of varsity baseball at Shippensburg. As a sophomore, his Shippensburg team made it to the Division II National Tournament.

Dedicated to his community, Corey was a volunteer for the Wyomissing Civil Service Commission, president of the BCIU High School Principal's Network, a board member of the PA Sports Hall of Fame, Berks County Chapter, and a board member for the Wyomissing Hills Pool.

Family and faith were foremost in Corey's life. In addition to his wife and parents, Corey is survived by his sons: Ryker J. Jones, a student athlete at Princeton University and Jaxon E. Jones, a student athlete at Wyomissing Area High School. He is also survived by his brother, Nathan T. (Jennie S.) and their son Kyle, New Cumberland; parents-in-law, James R. and Dolores J. Turley, Wyomissing; and sister-in-law, Katie L. (Douglas A.) Wilson, and their daughters, Evelyn and Clara, Wyomissing.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, from 3 to 8 p.m. at Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading. A second visitation will be held on Thursday, January 29, 2026, from 9 to 11 a.m. at St. Ignatius Roman Catholic Church, 2600 St. Albans Drive, Sinking Spring, where Corey was a newly baptized member. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at 11 a.m. at St. Ignatius RCC, with entombment to follow at Gethsemane Cemetery.
