Cletus N. Hamm

Cletus N. Hamm, 93, formerly of Laureldale, died July 3, 2013 in The Reading Hospital and Medical Center.

He was the husband of Virginia L. (Herbein) Hamm for 60 years, who died November 29, 2009.

Born December 16, 1919 in Lynnport, Lehigh County, he was a son of the late Perry A. and Mabel M. (Hamm) Hamm.

Cletus proudly served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Force 47th tactical fighter squadron at Hickam Air Force Base in Pearl Harbor. He saw the American flag raised at Iwo Jima after the Japanese surrendered.

He was employed as a steam shovel operator with Allentown Portland Cement Company, Evansville for 42 years, retiring in 1983.

Cletus was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, Laureldale.

Surviving are his two children: Donna, wife of Robert Waszkiewicz of Leesport and Donald J. Hamm of Shoemakersville.

Also surviving are his two sisters, Ruth Leiby of Hamburg and Mary Jane Nester of Oklahoma City, OK.

There are also five grandchildren: Becky, Katie, Willie, Brian and Robbie, seven great grandchildren and 1 step great grandson surviving.

Cletus was predeceased by his grandson, Jeremy R. Waszkiewicz; sister, Irene Rohrbach and two brothers, John and Willard Hamm.

Graveside services, with military honors, will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Becker's St. Peter's Cemetery, 265 Maidencreek Road, Fleetwood(Molltown), PA 19522.
