Clarence H. Courtney, Jr., a resident of Blandon, PA, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2023, after a short stay at Berks Heim Nursing Rehabilitation Center. He was 92 years old. Born on September 22, 1930, in Waynesboro, VA, Clarence was the son of Margaret & Clarence Courtney Sr. Clarence had a warm smile that could light up a room, and his presence brought joy to those around him.
Clarence, a master tile setter for 60 years, was known for his commitment to excellence, earning him respect and admiration from both colleagues and clients. After retiring from his tile setting career, he took on a role as a transporter at Reading Hospital.
In his younger days, Clarence enjoyed spending time bowling with his friends at Bowl-a-Rama and Shillington Fire Company. He was a lifetime member of the Shillington AA and could be found calling Bingo numbers at the Governor Mifflin Community Days Bingo tent. Golfing was another favorite pastime of his, and he eagerly anticipated his yearly golf trips to Myrtle Beach, SC with fellow members of the Shillington Clover Park AA. Even after retiring from golf, he found joy in weekly phone conversations with his son Larry, who would update him on his golf scores.
While in good health, Clarence actively volunteered at Nativity Lutheran Church in Reading.
In his leisure time, he loved watching sports on TV, particularly the Philadelphia sport teams such as the Eagles, Flyers, Phillies, and 76ers, in his dedicated "cave" room.
Clarence was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara A. (Trupp) Courtney, who passed away on July 12, 2001. He was fortunate to find love again and celebrated his 20th wedding anniversary with his surviving wife, Lillian (Stufflet) Courtney, on June 14th.
Clarence leaves behind a "bramble bush" blended family. His children include David S. Courtney, married to Mistyne (Sperber) of Shillington, PA; Beth A. (Courtney) Woytko, married to Joseph A. of West Lawn, PA; Michael Fetter of Blandon, PA; Mark Fetter married to Keri (Sauppee) of Wernersville, PA; and Lisa (Fetter) Millward married to Craig of Leesport, PA. Clarence and Lillian had a son, Larry K. Courtney, married to Penny (Darling), of Port Charlotte, FL who sadly passed away in August 2021.
He also leaves behind 18 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild.
Friends and family are invited to attend the Celebration of Life Memorial service, which will take place on Saturday, July 22, 2023, at Nativity Lutheran Church, 1501 N. 13th St. Reading, PA 19604. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am. Service to start at 9:30 am followed by a private cremation burial immediately after the service.
Until they meet again, Clarence's loved ones hold onto the sentiment, "I love you more," as a lasting reminder of his affection and presence in their lives.
