Clara B. Wertz, 94, died October 8, 2014, in her West Reading residence.

Her husband, J. Edward Wertz, died February 11, 1984. They were married on June 28, 1941.

Born in Hamtramck, MI, she was a daughter of the late William and Helen (Sczepanski) Mierzejewski, and her step-mother Genevieve Mierzejewski.

She was a 1938 graduate of Shillington High School. Clara worked at Berkshire Knitting Mills before having children. She later worked for Ludens Candy Company for over 20 years, retiring in 1984.

She was a member of St. Catharine of Siena Roman Catholic Church.

Clara loved people. She enjoyed traveling, going to church functions, playing cards and sending cards to family and friends; her family was very important to her. You could always find her reading, or watching her favorite game shows, visits from children, grandchilden,great-grandchildren, family and friends were a joy for her.

Clara is survived by two children, William E., husband of Patricia A. Wertz, Reading and Kathleen M. Tranquillo, friend of Terry Vonneida, West Reading; two siblings, Leon Mierzejewski, Douglassville and Patricia Mierzejewski, Shillington; her sister-in-law, Nancy Mierzejewski, Wyomissing; cousin, Leona Toole, Reifton; grandchildren: Michael Wertz, Jeffrey Wertz and wife Tammie, Marci Zambito and husband Jamie, Brad Tranquillo and wife Cindy and David Tranquillo and wife Suzy; and great-grandchildren: Drew Wertz, Colin Wertz, Haley Zambito, Kevin Zambito, Chase Tranquillo, Isabel Tranquillo and Ollie Tranquillo.

She was predeceased by two siblings, Theodore Mierzejewski and Irene Goodman, one sister-in-law, Marian Mierzejewski and one brother-in-law, Sherman Goodman.

The family wishes to thank Covenant Home Hospice for their loving, professional care.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Catharine of Siena R.C. Chapel, 2427 Perkiomen Ave. Reading, PA 19606, followed by a luncheon at GNA. Burial will be private in Gethsemane Cemetery. Friends may call Saturday from 9:15 to 10 a.m. in the chapel. Contributions may be made to: Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
