Christine Wall, 97, died peacefully on Wednesday, December 10 at Berks Heim in the loving care of the staff on A-2. She leaves behind four children: Frederick Wall in Atlanta, Georgia; Annette Pawelski in Robesonia, Rosemary Carr in Muhlenberg and Michael Wall in Bucktown, all Pennsylvania residents. In addition, she is survived by five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. When her husband, Sergeant Charles Wall of the Pennsylvania State Police, died in 2004, they had been married for fifty-eight years. For forty-four of those years, they made their home in West Lawn.
Christine Wall was born Christine O'Donnell on June 27, 1917 in Lebanon, Pennsylvania.
As a young woman, she worked at Bell Telephone and eventually rose to become Evening Chief of the Fort Indiantown Gap Switchboard. She had ambition and courage. When she met Charles on a blind date, they spent the night dancing and kept dancing well into their eighties.
She filled our home with books. She loved horses, birds, and her gardens and was proud of the ribbons she won for her flower arrangements. These loves commanded her devotion and made up the core of her life: her Catholicism, her husband and children, her grandchildren, her sisters and her mother.
She celebrated her grandchildren with unending joy. When my father retired, they traveled to Ireland, their ancestral home. When he suffered bouts of ill health, she took care of him. Even as age took its toll, her temperament never changed; it remained sweet and deeply kind.
We will miss her, but we also know that she is with our father and their two boys who had gone before them, our brothers, Patrick and Thomas.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 321 North Church Street, Robesonia, PA 19551. A visitation will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. in the church. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church at the above address. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading is in charge of arrangements.
