Christine Diener Miller Christine Diener Miller, formerly of Aiken, South Carolina, died on June 30, 2011 in Sonoita, Arizona at the home of her daughter, Cynthia Miller Antle. She had just celebrated her 98th birthday on June 17. Born in Hamburg, Pennsylvania in 1913, she was one of seven children of Irwin A. and Mary Laura Diener. Her family owned a dry goods store in Hamburg and originated several textile sewing operations which evolved into Diener Industries, Inc., employing nearly 1200 people nationwide. Mrs. Miller graduated from Wellesley College in 1936. In 1937, she married Robert G. L. Miller of Hamburg Pennsylvania. They were married for 62 years until his death in 1999. The couple resided at Tall Spruces near Bernville, Pennsylvania during which time Mrs. Miller was active in the community as as a member of the board of the Wyomissing Institute of the Fine Arts and the Family Services Association of Reading. Mrs. Miller also resided in Tucson, Arizona where she was active in residential and ranch real estate. She was a member of the Arizona State Cowbelles of Tucson and Sonoita, an association which promotes the beef industry. When her husband died, Mrs. Miller moved to Aiken, South Carolina to be near her daughter and son-in-law, Gretchen and George Wintersteen. As a new Aiken resident at age 89, she lived independently and developed a coterie of loving friends of all ages. Her mind was ever bright, her interests were many. After a one-year stay at Kendal, Kennett Square, she returned to Arizona to live with her daughter, Cynthia. Christine D. Miller is survived by a son, Robert G.L. Miller, Jr. of Reading PA and three daughters: Cynthia M. Antle of Sonoita AZ, Cecelia M. Lewis of Tucson AZ and Gretchen M. Wintersteen of Unionville PA. She is also survived by six grand-children and six great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at St. John's Cemetery in Hamburg, Pennsylvania on July 30 at 11:00 AM.
