Christ I. Pettis, 82, died October 21, 2008 in his Spring Twp. residence.
He was the husband of Mary C. (Carnoles) Pettis, to whom he was married on June 24, 1956.
Born in Reading, he was the son of the late Ignatios and Triandafila (Kordopadis) Pettis.
He was a graduate of Reading High School in 1944 and the Wharton School of Business in 1952.
Christ was a Corporal in the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving during WW II.
He was employed by Textile Machine Works, Reading Tube Corp. and retired from Narrow Fabric Industries as manager of material and production.
Christ was a member of SS Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, Reading, where he was a choir member and served on the parish council.
Mr. Pettis was appointed by the Mayor of Reading to the first Reading Airport Authority in 1956 and helped to plan the current Reading Airport. He also was Chairman of the Budget and Finance Committee for the American Red Cross, Berks County Chapter, where he was a board member for 15 years. He was also an active member of the Reading Jaycee's in the 1950's.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, David C., husband of Ann Marie Pettis, Sinking Spring and his daughter, Cassandra M., wife of Nicholas Karamanos, Lancaster. One sister, Helen G. Pettis, Wyomissing, and three granddaughters.
Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. in SS Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 1001 E. Wyomissing Blvd., Reading, PA 19611. Burial will be in Charles Evans Cemetery. Friends may call Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m. in the church. Contributions may be made to the church at the above address. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading is in charge of arrangements.
