Chester J. Jeschke

Chester J. Jeschke, 96, formerly of West Reading, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 in his Sacred Heart Villa residence, with his loving daughters by his side. Born July 17, 1921 in Robeson Township,

Chet was a son of the late John and Lottie (Ziolkowski) Jeschke. He celebrated 55 years of marriage to his wife Theresa, who passed away in 2008, and his family takes great comfort in knowing they are reunited again today.

Chet was a 1939 graduate of Birdsboro High School. A US Navy veteran, he served our nation valiantly during both World War II and the Korean War.

After discharge from the service, Chet worked as a Mechanical Inspector for the Brown Trailer Division of Clark Equipment Company, Reading, for 22 years. Following his "retirement" in 1974, he worked as an inspector for Morgan Corporation, Morgantown, last working in 1986.

Chet loved to go for long walks no matter the place, and he was a fixture on Penn Avenue, at the beach, and later in life, throughout the Villa grounds. He also was an avid clammer in the Delaware Bay, and was a dedicated baseball fan, routing especially hard for "his" Philadelphia Phillies.

He was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Parish, West Reading.

Chet is survived by his four children: daughters Greta E., Temple and Briget A., Robeson Township and sons Dr. Kurt J., husband of Betsy, State College, and Eric V., husband of Cheryl, Lewisberry. He is also survived by three grandchildren, and by his sister Frances Moszczienski, Reading.

He was predeceased by his brothers Edward, Joseph and John, and by his sisters Elsie, Lottie and Clare.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Saturday, March 17, 2018 in the Chapel at Sacred Heart Villa, 51 Seminary Avenue, Reading, PA 19605. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery. Friends may call one half-hour prior to Mass in the Chapel, beginning at 10:00am.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Chet's name can be made to Sacred Heart Villa at the address above.
