Charles "Chuck" H. Weiser, 84, passed away in his Reading residence on Friday, October 22, 2021. He was the loving husband of Patricia (Pfautz), with whom he shared over 43 years of marriage.
Born in Reading to the late Hans and Mary (Moyer) Weiser, Chuck graduated from Wilson High School in 1955 before enrolling in the United States Merchant Marine Academy of Kings Point, NY, graduating in 1959. Later in life Chuck would complete studies at the Lutheran Theological Seminary of Chicago.
Chuck served in the United States Navy for many years, earning the rank of Lt. Commander. He was stationed at Oakland Navy Base (CA), Norfolk Navy Base (VA), and Ft. Hamilton Navy Base (Brooklyn, NY). Also, Chuck worked at Gilbert Associates and later at the Kmart Pharmacy in Shillington.
Chuck was a long time member of Schwarzwald Lutheran Church.
An Eagle Scout at 16, Chuck spent many summers at Camp Conrad Weiser in his youth. As a younger man, Chuck enjoyed shooting pool and target shooting at the Reading Archery Club. A member of the US Chess Federation, Chuck played in many tournaments and collected many volumes on the game. He was an avid collector of movies and television series (spanning the classic era to modern media). He also enjoyed collecting model trains, particularly Lionel, and he was well known for his beautiful layouts during the holiday season. Chuck also had a passion for Civil War history, having curated over 100 volumes in his personal collection on the subject.
He enjoyed traveling, particularly to Cape May, NJ; Williamsburg, VA; Gettysburg; and Chicago, IL, where he lived with his wife for ten years. A family man, Chuck greatly enjoyed time spent with his family, particularly the mini-golf outings with his grandson, Jonathan. He followed Yankees Baseball, Penn State Football, Dallas Cowboys Football, and Wilson Bulldogs Football as well.
Chuck always enjoyed a good single malt scotch and glass of Port.
Left to treasure Chuck's memory is his wife, Patricia. He is also survived by his children Eric (Brooke) Weiser of Wyomissing and Karen (Kevin) Lerch of Muhlenberg, and their mother, Pat L. (Shanfelder) of Reading; daughters Jennifer Roth of Philadelphia and Beth Roth of Indianapolis, IN; grandchildren Jonathan, Blake, Christian, and Chadd; great grandchildren Jakob and Elijah; and great great grandchildren, Valerie and Luna. In addition to his parents, Chuck was predeceased by his grandchildren Shawn and Molly.
