Charles P. Tornielli, 83, of Reading, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 31, 2026, at Reading Hospital and Medical Center.
Born on September 27, 1942, in West Reading, he was the son of the late Peter J. Tornielli and Ida M. (Raccone) Tornielli.
Charles was a 1960 graduate of Wilson High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry from Penn State University. Following college, he was inducted into the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War.
After his military service, Charles began what would become a distinguished 40-year career with the Reading Eagle. Through hard work and dedication, he advanced to the position of Operations Manager before retiring in 2000.
A man of deep faith, Charles was a devoted member of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church. He found great joy in the outdoors as an avid hunter and took pride in giving back to his community. He was a dedicated softball coach for the Tulpehocken School District, where he enjoyed coaching his daughter's team, and was a lifetime member of the West Wyomissing Fire Company.
Charles will be lovingly remembered by his son, Joseph Tornielli and his husband, Phat, of Lyndhurst, New Jersey; his daughter, Lisa Eshbach and her husband, Michael, of Reading; his grandson, Cohen Eshbach; his brother, Richard Tornielli and his wife, Carol, of West Wyomissing; his longtime companion, Valerie Buller; as well as his two nieces, two nephews, an extended family and many friends.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, 739 Penn Avenue, West Reading, PA 19611. A funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Forest Hills Memorial Park.
