Charles “Chuck” H. Tillman, 92, passed away peacefully surrounded by his two daughters on February 28th, at Reading Hospital. He was the husband of the late Stella M. Sottasante. They shared 57 years of bliss together, until her passing in 2015.
Born in Reading, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Herman Tillman and Florence (Seidel) Czarnecki. Chuck graduated from Reading High School and the U.S. Fleet Sonar School in Key West, Florida. He was employed as a switchman at Bell Telephone Company (now Verizon) for 35 years until retirement. Chuck was also a proud U.S. Coast Guard veteran. Chuck was a man of faith and a devoted member of Holy Rosary Church. He was a real handyman and could put together or fix almost anything. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, weightlifting, yardwork and going out dancing with his loving wife Stella. He treasured vacationing in Wildwood with his family, watching horse races and taking road trips. He was also a pitcher for men’s fast pitch softball for the City League. Chuck will be remembered for his calm demeanor, steadfastness, inquisitiveness, fierce independence, and most of all as a true family man, who loved and cherished his wife, daughters, grandchildren, and great-granddaughter.
He will be deeply missed, and his memory will be embedded in the hearts of his daughters: Mary J. Thomas of Ellendale, DE, and Patty, wife of Dr. William C. Annear, Pittsburgh PA; his grandchildren: Abigail Christina, wife of Alexander Alm-Pandeya, Stockholm, Sweden, and W. Cameron Annear III, Milwaukee, Wisconsin; his great- granddaughter: Ebba Christina Marie Alm-Pandeya. He is survived by many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Stella, he joins in Heaven his siblings: Thomas Tillman, Catherine Czarnecki, Dorothy Wertz, Anna Gogluizza, Marie DeWald, Walter, Raymond, Joseph, John, and Paul Czarnecki.
Services for Chuck will be held privately at his request.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Rosary Church, 237 Franklin St, Reading, PA 19602.
