Charles K. Spears

Charles Keith Spears, 60, of Wernersville, passed away March 7, 2017, in Penn State Health St. Joseph.

He was the husband of Angelena (Owens) Spears whom he married on April 19, 1980, on his birthday.

Born in Baltimore, MD, he was a son of the late Ernest and Emily Elizabeth (Braxton) Spears.

Charles received a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Morgan State University.

He was employed by East Penn Manufacturing as a finisher for 10 years and was previously a supervisor at Lucent Technology for 22 years. The family moved to Pennsylvania in 1991.

Charles was very active in Bethel AME Church where he was a class leader, and a member of the usher and trustee boards. He was also a mason and enjoyed photography. Charles' family was everything to him.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his four children: Carmen R. Spears, Maryland; Jason K. Spears, Pennsylvania; George E. Spears Esq., Virginia; and Lydia R. Spears, Pennsylvania; one granddaughter, Amber L. Spears; two siblings, Maria Roseman and Ernst Spears Jr.; three nieces: Pamela, Mel, and Kim: and one nephew, John.

Services will be held Monday, March 13, 2017 at 10 a.m. in Bethel AME Church, 330 W Windsor St, Reading, PA 19601 with a viewing hour prior in the church. Burial will follow at Berks County Memorial Garden. A viewing will also be held Sunday, March 12, 2017 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the funeral home. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home Inc., West Reading is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Bethel AME Church at the above address.
