Charles Franklin McComsey, 76, formerly of North Heidelberg Township, died March 11, 2008 in Manor Care, Sinking Spring.
His wife, Ellen Mae (Boyer) McComsey, died January 26, 2008.
Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Leonard A. and Emily A. (Cole) McComsey.
He was a graduate of Shillington High School in 1950, and earned a bachelor's degree in science education from East Stroudsburg State University in 1959.
Mr. McComsey was a science teacher for 34 years for the Conrad Weiser Area School District, retiring in 1991. He also served as a track coach for Conrad Weiser between 1965 and 1997, serving as the head coach for 27 of those years and coaching four state champions. Charles was a P.I.A.A. track official and served on the Board of Directors of the Greater Philadelphia Track and Field Association. On June 1, 2004, his track career was highlighted by being named to the Conrad Weiser Sports Hall of Fame.
Charles was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Robesonia.
He was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving during the Korean Conflict; he also was a member of the Robesonia VFW.
Charles is survived by two children, Kristin D., wife of Robert A. Stoltzfus, North Heidelberg Township and Drew C., husband of Kelly A. (Schaub) McComsey, Bethel Township. There is one brother, Leonard, husband of Christine McComsey, Dunnellon, FL and one sister, Ruth, wife of Wilbur Eshelman, Montrose Manor; eight grandchildren, Alyssa Feeg, Zachary Connors, Mitchell Feeg, Chelsea McComsey, Ryan Connors, Devin McComsey, Abigail Stoltzfus, and Leah Stoltzfus also survive him.
Services will be Monday at 10 a.m. in Trinity Lutheran Church 108 South Robeson Street, Robesonia, PA 19551. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park.
