Charles L. Greusel

On February 28, 2025, Charles L. Greusel completed what he was sent here to do. His 91-year life was an amazing journey and he was a true renaissance man. Charles was born to Joseph and Florence (Wolfe) Greusel in 1934 on a farm in the Oley Valley but moved to a farm in Bern Twp. that his parents bought in in 1940. He graduated from Muhlenberg High School and enlisted in the US Navy where he served three years. Upon discharge he married his high school sweetheart, Jean (Billman) Greusel and at the young age of 21 they started their family that includes: Tim Greusel (husband of Edward Babiarz), Karen Auriemma (wife of Bob Auriemma) and Scott Greusel (husband of Ann Rissmiller Greusel).

Charles and Jean were inseparable during their 65 years of marriage until her passing in 2019. Following Jean's passing, he moved to Phoebe Village where he made new friends and dove into an exciting, busy and meaningful stage of his life.

Charles was a telephone lineman, a salesman, a welder, a tradesman, a church accountant, a typewriter repairman, worm farmer and many other endeavors. As if working and raising a family wasn't busy enough, he pursued a teaching degree at night from Penn State, and the job that he loved the most was as a teacher of welding at Brownstown Vo-Tech where he taught for 26 years. During his career in education he taught 100's of young tradespeople and mentored three students who went on to win national welding championships.

Charles was the definition of a gentleman; a kind, gracious, friendly and soft-spoken man who never uttered a swear word, only had good things to say about others, and stood ready to help anyone.

He was a 65-year member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Laureldale where he taught Sunday school, served on church counsel and was the Scoutmaster of Troop 124.

In addition to his children, he is survived by his four much loved grandchildren: Laura Keller, Erin Greusel-Hechinger, Evan Greusel, Hailey Steiner and his four great grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, Charles had four brothers: Owen, Ray, Bill and Paul who went before him as well as his granddaughter, Beth Shiner.

Visitation with family will be held in the Chapel at Phoebe Berks on March 7, 2025 at 9 AM, a service at 10 AM and burial at Forest Hills Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to a celebratory luncheon in the Bistro at Phoebe Berks at 1 PM.
