Catherine Anna Stobbart

Catherine Anna (Cox) Stobbart, 93, of Wernersville, passed away April 18, 2014 at Phoebe Berks.

Her husband, John B. Stobbart, died October 20, 1998.

Born September 25, 1920 in Marion, IN, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Blanche (Bayne) Cox.

She was a 1938 graduate of Marion High School, Marion, IN; attended Depauw University, where she belonged to Alpha Chi Omega; earned her B.A. in Sociology and Psychology from Indiana University, Bloomington, IN; and attended the University of Chicago where she studied medical social work.

Catherine worked as a teen director at the Marion IN YMCA; in the Marion IN County Welfare office in Adoption; the American Red Cross in Chicago and Terre Haute, IN; and as a Director of Patient Advocacy for the Mt. Sinai Hospital in Cleveland, OH. The Patient Advocate program, which she developed, was one of the first such programs in the country.

She was a member of Bausman Memorial United Church of Christ, Wyomissing.

Catherine, or Kate as she was known to many, enjoyed music her whole life. She often played piano at various events as well as for her own enjoyment.

She is survived by her two sons: David A., husband of Patricia A. Stobbart, Athens, OH; and William L., husband of Heidi R. Stobbart, Wyomissing. Also surviving are five grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Catherine was predeceased by her brother, Phillip Cox, in 1987.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 26th at 1:30 pm in the Phoebe Berks Chapel, 9 Reading Dr., Wernersville. Burial will be private in Hain's Church Cemetery. Flowers are welcome.
