Catherine M. James, 75, of Wyomissing, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, after a multiple year battle with leukemia. She was the widow of M. Michael James Sr., who passed away on September 19, 2023.
Born in Nanticoke, PA, to the late Henry P. and Irene (Skurka) Verbinski, Cathy graduated from Northwest Area High School and in 1971 graduated from the Reading Hospital School of Nursing.
Cathy worked in many aspects of healthcare, including in the ICU and CCU, private doctors' offices, and long-term care for over 25 years. Home health and hospice had a special place in her heart and she served as coordinator for Pinnacle Hospice as well as being a volunteer for hospice. She also was a former secretary of the Dunitz Foundation and served as treasure for her bowling league.
She loved to play cards with her friends, and she treasured caring for her grandchildren.
Left to cherish her memory is her son, Michael James, Jr. and his wife Jennifer Stoudt-James, and grandchildren: Alexander James, Thomas James, Adam Stoudt, Patrick Stoudt (wife Jenifer), Xander Stoudt, and Joshua Stoudt. She is also survived by her brother, John Verbinski (wife Dawn) , as well as her nieces, nephews, and their families.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her granddaughter, Mya Stoudt.
Contributions in her memory may be offered to the American Cancer Society, cancer.org.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Ignatius of Loyola Church, 2600 St Albans Dr, Reading, PA 19609, with committal to follow at Berks Co. Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the start of Mass. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc, is entrusted with arrangements. Condolences may be expressed at kuhnfuneralhomes.com.
