Catherine K. Laundra

Catherine K. "Dolly" (Knappenberger) Thornburg Laundra, 89, died May 11, 2010 in Wyomissing Skilled Nursing Home.

Her first husband, Kenneth O. Thornburg died in 1959 and her second husband, Thomas Laundra died in 2008.

Born in Shillington, she was the daughter of the late Paul E. and Louise C. (Loehrig) Knappenberger.

She was a 1939 graduate of Shillington High School and attended Penn State University.

Catherine was the owner of Professional Personnel, Reading; previously she was a vice president for E. J. Bettinger Co., Philadelphia.

She was a member of: Who's Who in American Business, Office Managers' Club of Philadelphia, American Business Women's Association, Reading Christian Women's Club, Women's Auxiliary of Reading Hospital, and Alethea Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star. She was also a past president of the Football Mother's Club for Wilson High School in the 1970's.

Catherine was a member of Atonement Lutheran Church, Wyomissing, where she was a member of church council, choir, worship and music committee and served as a Sunday School Teacher.

Catherine is survived by three children, Karen L. (Thornburg) Laundra, wife of Jack Laundra, Runnemede, NJ and Kathleen G. (Thornburg) Kohler, wife of Charles Kohler, Mohnton; Michael T. husband of Cynthia Thornburg, Reading; a brother, Paul H. Knappenberger, Reading. Seven grandchildren, Wendy Laundra Romeo, Perkasie, Lori Laundra, Runnemede, NJ, Jennifer Laundra Ennis, Lancaster, Shawn Laundra, Pitman, NJ, Christopher Kohler, Garfield, NJ, Jonathan Kohler, Sinking Spring and Stephen Kohler, Kenhorst; and eight great-grandchildren also survive her.

She was preceded in death by her three year old great-granddaughter, Alexa Rose Romeo in March of 2008.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. in Atonement Lutheran Church, 5 Wyomissing Blvd. Wyomissing, PA 19610. Burial will be in Good Shepherd Cemetery.
