Catherine A. Burkart

Catherine A. Burkart, 69, formerly of Sinking Spring, died February 4, 2014, in Reading Hospital.

She was a daughter of the late Edward J., Sr. and Alice M. (Dalton) Swoyer.

Cathy was a graduate of Reading Catholic High School in 1962, St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing in 1965 and attended Penn State University/Berks Campus.

She was employed as an R.N. in the operating room in the St. Joseph Hospital and Reading Hospital. Later she was employed by Dr. Raymond L. Smith.

Cathy was a member of St. Ignatius Loyola Roman Catholic Church, Whitfield. She had a love for travel and music especially going to shows.

She is survived by two children, James M. Burkart, Hamburg and Rachel A. Burkart, Sinking Spring. There are three siblings, Ed Swoyer, Jr., Mary Ellen Swoyer and Alice Smolkowicz; and two nephews Edward Swoyer and James Swoyer.

A Prayer Service will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in the Chapel of St. George at Gethsemane Cemetery with entombment to follow.
