Carroll Simmons

Carroll John "C.J." Simmons, 72, died September 8, 2007 at 8:50 pm in the Reading Hospital and Medical Center, where he had been admitted earlier in the day.

He was married May 28, 1960 to Harriet Louise (Metrolis) Simmons.

Born August 18, 1935 in Middleport, Schuylkill County, he was a son of the late George and Leah (Sanders) Simmons.

He was a 1954 graduate of Kutztown High School.

Carroll was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Fleetwood.

He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War.

Carroll was employed 10 years as a powder operator with Polymer Corporation, Glenside.

He was later employed as a laborer and machine operator with Atochem, Birdsboro for 20 years before retiring in 1990.

Carroll was a member of the American Legion, Shillington; Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post #6150, Sinking Spring and the National Association of Atomic Veterans.

He is also survived by two children, Sharon L. wife of Michael G. Maiolie of Spring Township and Brian L. husband of Linda M. (Sabanos) Simmons of Cumru Township.

Other survivors include a sister, Marian L. Kaylor of Pennsauken, New Jersey and a brother, David G. Simmons of Morris, PA.

There are also seven grandchildren, Amanda, wife of Michael; Ryan, Andrew, Sarah, Samantha, Tessa and Christopher.

He was predeceased by two sons, Bruce J. Simmons, who died October 4, 1968 and Alan J. Simmons, who died March 2, 1998.

Carroll was also predeceased by a brother, Charles Simmons.

Services will be Friday at 10:00 am in St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 5 West Arch Street, Fleetwood, with the Rev. Merrill Q. Ressler officiating. Viewings will be held Thursday 6:30 - 8:00 pm in Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, 3300 Kutztown Rd., Laureldale and Friday 9:00 am until time of services in the Church. Burial will be in St. Paul's Cemetery, Richmond Township. Contributions may be made to Paralyzed Veterans of America, 801 Eighteenth Street, NW, Washington, DC 20006-3517.
