Caroline Ann Hendel

Caroline Ann (Leach) Hendel passed peacefully October 29, 2023 surrounded and guided by her loving Family. She was born December 23, 1930, the fourth of five children; quite a present for her Family; a real "Christmas Carol". Her Parents Rose Frances and William F Leach instilled in her a strong sense of Love and Family. She attended school first in her hometown of Yonkers, New York. Yes, she was a New York girl. She moved to Reading at age 12 and graduated from Central Catholic HS, Class of 1948, then to St Joseph Hospital School of Nursing Class of 1951. Then, a 40 year career in Nursing, including Operating Room Supervisor. This would come in handy with the 5 little boys that followed.

Along with husband John, Supermom worked full time, ran the household, and raised her boys nurturing each. She modeled kindness, inclusiveness and had a big open heart. She was an avid gardener, voracious reader, a great cook, and an even better baker with a new cake on the table each night. She could also be a drill Sergeant, corralling her boys and some well known Doctors.

In our families, she was the last of 10, in her generation. She was predeceased by the Love of her Life and Partner of 62 years, John Hendel, (fourth of five children in his Family). The loss of her sons (Raymond) Scott and John (Roderick), way too early, left holes in her heart forever. She is survived and sadly missed by her beloved, like a daughter, Betsy; Sons David (Betty), Timothy, James (Michelle) and grandchildren Lauren, Johanna & Kelly & Liam, Michael & Tarryn and Sam.

The Family wishes to thank the following people who were especially helpful to Mom in her Final years including Dr. Kim Rauenzahn, Kim Pachullio, among others, Shirley Morris and all the wonderful and loving staff at Celebration Villa for all you've done. In lieu of flowers, Carol would ask that you give generously to the Charity of your Choice.

Viewing at Kuhn Funeral Home, West Reading, Saturday November 4 at 9:00 a.m. Service at 10:00 a.m. Lunch to follow at 1:00 p.m.
