Carol Hertz Bowman

Carol Hertz Bowman, 84, of Wyomissing, passed away on August 3, 2026 at Reading Hospital. Born in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of Walter Mann and Anna Elizabeth (Bock) Hertz. Carol was the loving spouse of Glenn R. Bowman with whom she shared 65 years of marriage.

Carol was a 1959 graduate of J. P. McCaskey High School. She continued her education at Susquehanna University, where she met the love of her life, her husband. Carol devoted herself to family and to being a homemaker, lovingly caring for her husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She created a warm, welcoming home for family and friends.

Carol will be remembered for her joyful spirit and meaningful relationships with family and friends. She enjoyed spending time in her garden, and was the real deal when it came to being a homemaker. Carol possessed an innate ability to share her feelings and thoughts through notes and letters. But most importantly, she was the glue that held her family together and for that she will be deeply missed.

In addition to her husband, Carol is survived by her sons, G. Timothy Bowman (Deborah T.), of Belmont, MA, and Andrew Hertz Bowman (Judy L.), of Wyomissing, PA. She will be deeply missed by her grandchildren: Emily Lauren Bowman (Christopher S. Bayers), Alexa Rae Bowman, Jonah Glenn Bowman (Carolyn Ann), and Andrew Timothy Bowman. Also surviving are her great grandchildren: Ethan Christopher Bowman Bayers and Walter Glenn Bowman, as well as her siblings, W. Christopher Hertz (Tracy) and Susan Hertz Stoudt.

Carol was predeceased by her parents and her brother-in-law, Kenneth Gordon Stoudt.

Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial donation in Carol's name to the Wyomissing Public Library, 9 Reading Blvd, Wyomissing, PA 19610.

Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements. Condolences may be written online at KuhnFuneralHomes.com.

A Living Will
by Naomi Halperin Spigle
When they say I cannot
hear you, sing me lullabies
and folk songs, the ones
I sang to you. I will hear them
as an unborn child can hear
its mother's music through
the waters of the womb.

When they say I can feel
nothing, press your face
against my forehead, rest your
hand against my cheek. I
will feel them as the woman
at the window feels the wind
outside the glass.

When they say I'm past
all caring, brush my hair
and braid in ribbons. I will
know it as the seashells
on my table know the
rhythms of the sea.

When they tell you
to go home, stay with me
if you can. Deep inside I will be
weeping.

'Tis a Fearful Thing
by Chaim Stern
'Tis a fearful thing
to love what death can touch.
A fearful thing
to love, to hope, to dream, to be -
to be,
And oh, to lose.
A thing for fools, this,
And a holy thing,
a holy thing
to love.
For your life has lived in me,
your laugh once lifted me,
your word was gift to me.
To remember this brings painful joy.
'Tis a human thing, love,
a holy thing, to love
what death has touched.
