Carol Ann Dempsey

Carol Ann Dempsey, 78, of Reading, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, after a courageous battle with cancer that lasted nearly two decades.

Born in Reading, Carol was the daughter of the late William Sr. and Betty (Nye) Trate. She graduated from West Reading High School with the class of 1967. Soon after graduation, she married and, as a Navy wife, devoted herself to raising their three children while her husband served in the United States Navy. Although military life brought its share of challenges, Carol provided a steady and loving home for her family.

Later in life, Carol began a career at Kmart, where she worked for many years. She genuinely enjoyed her job and the friendships she made there.

Carol enjoyed crocheting and was known for her strength, determination, and quick sense of humor. More than anything, she valued time spent with her family. She especially treasured her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as the opportunity to be an active part of the lives of her nieces and nephews.

Left to treasure her memory are her daughters, Laura Lewis of Sinking Spring and Mandy Striegel (Scott) of Lakewood Village, TX; her son, William "Bill" Dempsey of Sinking Spring; grandchildren: Shane Striegel, Skyler Striegel (Natasha), Steven Striegel and Aaron Lewis; great granchildren: Sam, Lydia, Serena, Stella, and William; sisters, Barbara Duguay (Mitch) of Temple, and Peg Trate of Sinking Spring; and brother, William "Bump" Trate, Jr.

Carol was preceded in death by her sister Charlotte Trate, and her grandson, Brandon Lewis.

A Celebration of Carol's life will be held on Wednesday, August 19, 2026 from 1:00-4:00 pm at the family home, 420 Calco Ave, Sinking Spring, PA.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Carol's memory are invited to support breast cancer research by donating their time, talents, or financial contributions to the organization of their choice.
