Carol Elizabeth (Krick) Christman, 80, of Oley, ascended into heaven on Wednesday, February 5, after a brief illness.
Born on July 7, 1933 in the city of Reading, Carol was the daughter of the late Mary E. (Gaenzle) and Charles E. Krick. She spent a large portion of her childhood in the city until her family relocated to Oley Township in the 1940s. Carol was salutatorian of her graduating class of 1951 from Oley Valley High School. She furthered her education at Penn State, Main Campus, but was soon drawn to the life of a wife and mother.
On June 12, 1953, Carol married Leonard Leroy Christman. They were married sixty years and to their union six children were born.
Family, children, and animals (particularly cats) were the great loves of Carol's life. She was devoted to her family, spent time as a den mother for the Boy Scouts of America, taught Sunday school, and welcomed several cats into her home over the course of her life. She spent many years babysitting for her grandchildren and other children in the community. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and she carried photos of them along with the rest of her family to show to anyone willing to look at them.
Carol had a love of history and was a great reader. She was often found with her nose in a book, particularly those about Ancient Egypt or Victorian England. In the winter of her life she also acquired a fondness for Jane Austen and the Regency period. Her simple pleasures included the great MGM musicals, Gilbert & Sullivan operettas, doll collecting, and embroidery.
Carol is survived by her husband and her six children, Leonard L., husband of Deanna (Rindge) Christman of Allentown; Robert C., husband of Karen L. (Cassidy) Christman of Fleetwood; Suzanne L. Mest, wife of Randel S. Mest of Boyertown; Carol D. Kneeream, fiancée of George Broadfoot of Laureldale; James R. of Oley; and Charles E., husband of Marybeth (Conway) Christman of Muhlenberg township, sixteen grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Jean Louise (Krick) Angstadt, of Fleetwood and brother Charles E. Krick, Jr., husband of Lola (Russell) Krick, of Albemarle, North Carolina.
She was pre-deceased by her sister, Gwendolyn Denise Krick of North Carolina, in 2006.
