Carmen E. Bowers

Carmen E. Bowers, 92, formerly of Shoemakersville died May 29th in Manor Care, Laureldale. She was the widow of George R. Bowers who died in 1964. She was born in Orwigsburg and was the daughter of the late Edward W. and Daisy M. (Spence) Hummel. Carmen worked at various knitting mills throughout the area as a machine operator for 60 years retiring in 1995. She was a member of the First United Church of Christ, Reading and its Senior Citizen Group. She is survived by her daughter Bonnie Bowers of Shoemakersville and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 2nd at 11:00 AM from the Burkey & Driscoll Funeral Home, Inc., 40 S. 4th Street, Hamburg, PA. A visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made the First U.C.C. Senior Citizen Center, 611 Washington Street, Reading, PA. 19601 or the Bridge Church, 3561 Old 22, Hamburg, PA 19526.
