Carl E. Steffy, 89, formerly of Wyomissing, passed away September 9, 2014 in Kindred Transitional Care.
He was the husband of Helen M. (Wells) Steffy, whom he married 64 years ago on April 29, 1950.
Born March 11, 1925 in Reamstown, PA, he was a son of the late Howard E. and Florence (Keith) Steffy.
Carl was a 1943 graduate of Shillington High School.
He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and Korea. He participated in the D-Day invasion of Europe at the helm of LCT 715, delivering troops and equipment during the assault on Omaha beach.
Carl retired from the V.F. Corporation in 1986.
He was a member of Jehovah's Witnesses Congregation of Lincoln Park.
Carl enjoyed gardening, fishing, and spending time with his family. He will be dearly missed.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his four sons: Gary W. Krick, husband of Patricia Krick, Exeter; Glenn E. Steffy, companion of Nancy Bourgeois, Lincoln Park; Richard A., husband of Mary Ann Steffy, South Heidelberg Township; and Mark A., husband of Danielle Steffy, Wyomissing. Also surviving are his sister, Lillian Frankhouser, East Earl; his nine grandchildren: Kevin, Keith, Brandi, Robert, Allison, Ashleigh, Kaylee, Jacob, and Adam; as well as ten great-grandchildren, with one on the way.
Carl was predeceased by his daughter, Donna M. Stoudt, in 2005.
Services will be Friday, September 12, 2014 at 11 a.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading. A viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Animal Rescue League of Berks County, P.O. Box 69 Mohnton, PA 19540.
