Carl R. Spayd Sr.

Carl "Sonny" Spayd, Sr., 89, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2026, at the Lutheran Home at Topton.

Born in Stony Creek, Pennsylvania, Sonny was the son of the late John and Gertrude (Pott) Spayd. As a young man, he proudly served his country in the United States Army, enlisting alongside his brother, John, through the Army's buddy system. During his military service, he trained and worked as a chef, a skill that remained a source of pride throughout his life.

Following his service, Sonny worked for many years at Glidden Paints. Outside of work, he was an avid bowler who enjoyed participating in numerous leagues over the years, forming many lasting friendships along the way.

A lifelong member of Alsace Lutheran Church, Sonny's faith was an important part of his life.

Sonny had a curious mind and a passion for healthy living. He enjoyed learning about nutrition and health supplements and could often be found browsing local farmers markets in search of fresh produce. Family and friends knew him as someone who always seemed to know which products earned top consumer reviews and which ones were best avoided. He loved sharing his knowledge over a cup of coffee and treasured time spent with family during holidays, celebrations, and gatherings. He also looked forward to his monthly lunches with friends from Northmont, where stories, laughter, and friendship were always on the menu.

Sonny will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. May he rest safely and peacefully in the Lord's loving care.

He is survived by his son, Carl Spayd, Jr. and his wife, Heather (Musser), of Shillington; his daughter, Beth Ann Fager, of Mechanicsburg; his brothers, John Russell Spayd and his wife, Dee, of Manheim and Elvin "Sam" Spayd of Ohio; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be private. Carl will be laid to rest in Forest Hills Memorial Park.
