Carl E. Schlegel, 88 of Windsor Township died August 29 in Lehigh Valley Hospital at Cedar Crest. He is survived by his wife Fern E. (Weiss) Schlegel of Windsor Township. He was predeceased by his first wife Grace L. (Kerchner) Schlegel who died in 1967. Carl was born in Macungie and was the son of the late Edmund M. and J. Suzanna (Herbein) Schlegel. He was a farmer for 20 years until 1964 and then worked for General Battery, Hamburg for 24 years as a machine operator retiring in 1988. Carl was a Windsor Township Supervisor for 40 years and served as Chairman of the Board for 12 years retiring in 1998. He served on Frieden's Cemetery Board in Lenhartsville for 25 years. He was a member of Frieden's Church, Lenhartsville and served on the consistory for many years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Shirlene wife of Mark Epting, Perry Township, Kenneth husband of Cynthia Schlegel, Richmond Township, Keith husband of Justine D. Danenhower, Albany Township and Carolyn wife of Sterling Bower, Jr., Windsor Township, 3 sisters, Marie wife of Marvin Leslie, Macungie, Fern wife of Lester Kerchner, Kutztown, and Marilyn widow of Richard Gangaway, Laureldale, 8 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 AM from Frieden's Church, old 22, Lenhartsville. A viewing will be held from 9:30 to 11:00 AM in the church. Burial will be in Zion's Cemetery, Perry Township. Memorial contributions may be made to the church, PO Box 221, Lenhartsville, PA. 19534.
