Carl T. Schladitz

Carl T. Schladitz, 82, of Wyomissing, died June 11, 2016 in North Carolina.

He was the loving husband of Joyce Schladitz.

Born in Reading, he was the son of the late Henry and Helene (Walbrecker) Schladitz.

Carl was a 1951 graduate of Wyomissing High School. He also graduated from Virginia Military Institute in 1957 earning a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering.

He served as first lieutenant in the U.S. Army Artillery for two years, stationed in Fort Bliss, El Paso, Texas and as an Army Reservist for five years.

Carl was employed as a Civil Engineer with Gilbert Associates in 1960, Spotts Stevens & McCoy, Huth Engineers, Lancaster, Bolden Engineering, Wilmington, NC and Green Valley Consultants. He also served as the Health Officer for Wyomissing Borough, Shillington and Spring Township, which he especially enjoyed.

He served as a member of the Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers, Water Pollution Control Federation, Water Quality Control Federation, Schuylkill River Power Squadron, Mohnton Fish and Game Association and the National Rifle Association.

Carl was a proud VMI alumnus, avid golfer and gun owner. He always put family friends first but ultimately was a proud American.

In addition to his wife, Carl is survived by his loving children: Karen, wife of Harold Wilson, Virginia, Kyle, husband of Cathy Schladitz, Mountville, PA, and Kathryn Hilbert, Cumru Twp.; five grandchildren Sarah, wife of Matt Raine, Laura, wife of Ricky Read, Benjamin Wilson, Eric, husband of Sarah Hilbert and Matthew Hilbert; and great grand children Emma Raine and Hunter Read; four nephews, Harold, Charles, Richard and David Kretz.

Carl was predeceased by his sister, Greta Kretz, his son Kurt Schladitz and a nephew Mark Kretz.

Services will be held Friday, June 17, 2016 at 1 P.M. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Avenue, West Reading. Burial will be held in Charles Evans Cemetery. Friends may call from 12 P.M. to 1 P.M. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Carl's memory to a charity of your choice.
