Carl "Skip" A. Messner, 85, of Brecknock Township, passed away August 28, 2016, in St. Joseph's Hospital.
He was the loving husband of Mary J. (Rebhan) Messner for 34 years.
Born in Reading, he was the son of the late Carl B. and Violet (Gehring) Messner.
He was a 1948 graduate of Reading High School.
Carl was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict.
He was employed by Metropolitan Edison Company as a civil engineer for 35 years, retiring in 1991.
Carl was an active member of Allegheny Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mohnton.
He also was a member of the Shin Hollow Rod and Gun Club and the Reading Water Skiers.
Carl was an avid hunter and fisherman; he loved spending time with his family, grandchildren and his dogs, Casey and Max.
He enjoyed taking care of his yard and pond, working out at Flying Hills Fitness Center, traveling to Chincoteague, VA, and watching the Phillies and Eagles games.
Carl was a wonderful, loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather; he will be missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children: Karyn L. Alam, Centreville, VA and Jill D. Hawk, Temple; three step-children: Faith A., wife of Michael Libbe, Orlando, FL; Alfred R., husband of Annalisa Jordan, Shillington; and William F., husband of Lisa Jordan, Harrisburg; two grandchildren: Zachary J. Alam; and Omar C. Alam; and four step-grandchildren: Amy Jordan; Torey Jordan; Jonathan Jordan; and Emily Jordan. Two nephews: Daniel Richards and Gary Richards; and one niece, Kelly Clower, also survive him.
He was predeceased by one sister, Carol A. Richards.
Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. in Allegheny Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1327 Alleghenyville Rd, Mohnton, PA 19540, with burial to follow at Allegheny Union Church Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday from 5:30 to 8 p.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading.
